Negotiate a Debt Settlement

Debt assigned to a lawyer -- will they negotiate 25% settlement or less with me? I am homeless & on welfare.?

The debt was first assigned to a collection agency, then it went to a law firm August of 2006. They have not contacted me in five months.

1. of course they'll negotiate.. make sure you get everything in writing... their offer, and their agreement to accept the settlement as payment in full.
2. technically if you are homeless and on welfare they can't do anything but call you and harass you..if you go to work, they can garnish wages..have you thought of bankruptcy..there are free legal services to help you with this... How can pay even a little bit if you need to save money for a home...? They will negotiate but they will continue to harass you for the full amount no matter what unless you file bankruptcy..I know from experience..
